LAP Blog--- March 17 ,2014

by Debra Schum

The legislative session opened Monday March 10th and Education is predicted to be the hot topic for this session. Currently there are 121 Education bills that have been filed in the House and 57 bills that have been filed in the Senate. The topics range from Teacher Evaluation and Common Core, to PARCC and Principal Empowerment. We want to keep you updated on the status of the legislation as well as receive your feedback regarding proposed bills. We will be sending out a very brief ( 3 question) survey to you this week and ask that you take a few minutes to complete it so that we can provide adequate information when the bills are proposed. We hope to keep you informed and to make sure your voice is heard during this legislative session. Senate Education and House Education Committees begin meeting this Wednesday March 12th and we will keep you updated with bills that need your attention! Thanks for all that you do!

Please call your BESE member (click here for list) and ask them to remove the newly added LDOE recommendations and to approve the ACT 240 Committee recommendations. The LDOE's new recommendations are particularly negative towards principals and superintendents.
